Arches watercolor paper splints, first printed with archival inks, acrylic paint
This lidded basket is a double-weave, printed with Treaty Of New Echota on the exterior splints. Interior is from over 95 pages of Cherokee signatures protesting the legality of the document. The design on lid is a traditional Cherokee pattern called “Man-In-A-Coffin”, and is created out of President Andrew Jackson’s signature as he is the one who authorized the removal of Cherokee from their homeland to Indian Territory, Oklahoma.
